I made it to the recipe, but rather than over rice I made it as an appetizer and served it on lettuce leaves as a wrap. Our guests loved it. I would make it again and serve it the same way.
10/26/2018
I wrapped mine in flour tortillas and added shredded cabbage and made "tacos". It was so good, and I garnished it with the red garlic chili sauce that I get at the Asian supermarket. I even forgot the rice, but it didn't even matter. Quick, easy, and delicious!

Your busy weeknight needs this dish. Even your lazy Saturdays will be happy with it. My family devoured this. It's so simple to make and it is super delicious and full of flavor. Leftovers warm easily, which is great when you've got teenage midnight grazers. The first time I made it, I served it over rice. Second time with rice noodles. The next time I make it I'll take the advice of the other reviewer and serve as tacos with cabbage. Thank you for the awesome recipe.

Great, quick recipe that the whole family loved. I would probably cut some of the brown sugar next time and DEFINITELY use low salt soy sauce. I didn't have enough so I used some regular and it was pretty salty. Next time I'm going to try with coconut aminos. I also added some shredded carrots at the end to increase veggie content. Served with steamed rice. This one will go into our rotation!
07/29/2019
This is so delicious. I added cauliflower to the meat mixture Since I needed to use it up. I'll make this again. Excellent flavor.
06/26/2019
Since recently coming back from Asia, I've been craving Bibimbap, so once I saw this beef recipe, I knew I must make it. I used this beef mixture in place of the meat in the 'Bibimbap (Korean Rice With Mixed Vegetables)' on this site. This beef mixture was so good and full of flavor. Then, when combined with the Bibimbap recipe, a delicious beef and vegetable meal was created. This was so delicious that my husband bragged about it for days. Thanks for such a great recipe!
01/19/2019
Absolutely delicious! Made rice in my rice maker while getting everything else ready. Will add one or a combination of: cashews. broccoli. water chestnuts. carrots. possibilities are endless!
10/17/2018
I didn't have sesame oil, so I just used canola oil. I also didn't have crushed red pepper so I sprinkles in some hot chili powder. I substituted the rice for quinoa for the kids and cauliflower rice for adults. This is a new family favorite!
11/06/2018
I had also most every ingredient (I was missing green onions) but it was still very delicious I can't wait to make this again and I'll make sure I have green onions. This is now added to my family's favorite meals to cook.
02/13/2019
This was really good and flavorful. I don't like to change peoples recipes but I needed to use up a red bell pepper, shallot and broccoli so I added them in. Yuuummmm??. Will definitely make this again. Thank you
01/09/2019
This is a MUST. Tried it tonight for the first time followed the exact instructions and added 1 1/2 tablespoons of Sambal Oelek Chili Paste and it was delicious! Served it over brown rice with peas. Please note, it's best to use Low Sodium Soysauce. It has just the amount of salt needed. Definitely adding to my recipe book.
01/15/2019
Tossed in roasted broccoli for a complete meal.
06/27/2019
I was looking for something different to do with ground beef and was good. Read the other reviews and decided to give this recipe a try and it was wonderful. I use gluten free soy sauce which isn't low sodium. The comments that said it was to salty when using regular soy sauce and it being to salty, i decided to cut the soy sauce in half and mix with water. The flavor of this dish was great
01/23/2020
it was very good
12/11/2018
This is a quick weeknight dinner. It has a great flavor. I found it a little dry so I added some beef broth to it. I will definitely make it again.
06/25/2019
This is a very good recipe, Nice and flavourful. And easy to make. I made this into lettuce wraps. Home grown lettuce with a layer of rice and topped with the ground beef mixture. A sprinkle of sesame seeds and some green onions. Turned out great.
02/02/2019
I was at the end of my menus, and was looking to make something with pantry staples. I had a received an e-mail from Allrecipes with this recipe in it, so I decided to make it. The added bonus is I realized it's a recipe by my good friend b.d.weld!
04/13/2019
Five stars! I made this exactly as described and not three bites in my husband declared that this is a keeper and should be on regular rotation. Delicious, the whole family devoured it.
04/26/2019
I had to use ground ginger and I omitted the red pepper flakes but only for my kids' sake. I served mine with broccoli, celery and carrots. I took leftovers to work and everyone in the office was begging for the recipe because it smelled so good. This meal was delicious!
05/30/2019
My family gave this 6 thumbs up. Very delicious, though I didn't use low sodium Soy sauce (don't have it) and it was fine. Scooped it over some jasmine rice and oh my my, it went off the plates very quickly! You might want to tone down the spice a bit though if you have family members that don't like it.
12/16/2018
Tad salty but still very good. I didn't have low sodium soy used regular. Maybe next time I will use low sodium and see if that helps with the salty ness. Definitely easy and will make again
10/25/2018
Added extra red chili pepper (1 1/2 teaspoon) to kick it up a notch.. Very easy to make and everyone loved it.....we will make this on many more occasions.
02/07/2019
my whole family loved it, my youngest even asked "why did you make me wait soo long to taste this" made exactly per instructions served with brown rice and streamed broccoli.
10/08/2018
It's so good
02/25/2019
I have to admit that I eyeballed the quantities when making this for one portion, probably using less soy than a strict division by 4 would have resulted in. I also cooked the rice along with the beef once the beef had been browned and seasoned, instead of serving the beef over plain steamed rice. Even with less soy, and reduced-sodium soy at that, plus the added water for the rice, the dish turned out a bit salty for my taste and the other flavors were a bit overpowered (except the sesame). I'm going to try it again, though, with a bit less soy, because the concept was good and I enjoyed the meal in spite of the saltiness. I may also throw in some vegetables, maybe zucchini or yellow squash coins , a handful or two of spinach or baby greens, or whatever comes to hand. On the whole then, I'd say this is a make-again with minor variations.
10/19/2018
Easy to make and came out really good. I added sliced red peppers in the end. I would make this again.
11/03/2018
I followed the recipe and it was super easy to make. Tasty but a little bit salty for our taste so I may adjust the soy sauce next time. Will make them again.
01/07/2019
Easy and tasty. I was a bit afraid of the garlic (husband not a huge fan) so I 1/2 it but next time I will add the full amount.
12/15/2018
Really good! quick and easy. didn't add all the soy sauce or brown sugar.
10/11/2018
Great recipe! So quick and easy...delicious!! Perfect week night dinner
09/14/2019
Excellent! Definitely decrease the amount of soy sauce... was way too salty as it is written. I also added a can of diced water chestnuts for texture!
06/01/2020
I used full salt soy sauce because that's what I had and I still think it came out great! Next time I'll try the low sodium. My SUPER picky kids ate it!!! 4 kids aged 14-7! And they raved about how they'd like this in their school lunches next year if they're back in school. Great flavor. Quick and easy.
05/22/2020
Excellent recipe! Very easy to make and delicious!
02/06/2019
This turned out great! Even my picky kids loved it!! They asked for this to be added to our weekly rotation. We like spice, so I added a little chili paste for extra flavor and heat.
04/09/2020
I made as stated and it was perfect. I will definitely make again. So flavorful and quick and easy.
05/11/2020
I didn't measure anything, just added to taste. Added a lot of regular Onions and Minced Garlic, and instead of flakes I used Chili Paste. Also added my Home Made Pickled Ginger (4 tblsp-ish) It was absolutely Delicious! I will be adding this dish, and variations to my regular cycles.
05/27/2020
Super easy and delicious. I served it over steamed rice but only needed half the amount of rice that was suggested. Such a wonderful flavor. This recipe will be repeated frequently.
04/09/2019
easy and a crown pleaser. I make almost twice as much sauce, and sometimes add veg, especially mushroom or peppers and celery.
05/30/2020
Great! Used with rice and later with Iceberg lettuce cups. Very popular!
10/02/2019
This is addictive. I only added half the sugar and I did actually substitute worcestire sauce for soy according to allrecipes substitution chart. I'm sure it would be better with soy. But this was such a fabulous base and new addition to my recipe rotation I had to give five stars. I roasted broccoli and green beans and any veggie would do. The green onions were a must. Next time I will try peppers and cashews.
11/16/2019
I enjoyed this. I didn't follow the recipe very precisely as some family members are allergic to some of the ingredients, and I threw in vegetables that weren't part of the recipe. Nonetheless, it turned out well and I will make it again.
01/20/2019
unfortunately my ginger root went bad so I used 2 teaspoons of powdered ginger and it was ok but I think fresh would be better. It was good and I will make it again.
10/14/2019
Delicious and simple!
05/08/2020
Simple and tasty. I spiced it up a bit and added some blistered snap peas and broccoli. Great, fast, easy dinner.
10/13/2019
Easy and awesome
03/24/2019
The Korean Beef was quick and very flavorful. We added cabbage and served with edamame. We will definitely try this recipe again.
05/13/2020
I followed the recipe except that I was out of fresh ginger root (this is during the Covid-19 shelter at home) so there was not that zing. I added about 1 cup of shredded green cabbage and 1/2 cup (1 medium) carrot to the meat mixture with the garlic. I served it with the scallion and sesame seed garnish over steamed long grain rice (what I had on hand). It was tasty and I was surprised that it cooked almost as quickly as the times stated in the recipe. Most online recipes underestimate the prep and cook times but this was pretty much on the mark. Thanks for sharing this as something a little different to do with ground beef.
03/29/2019
Delicious and easy recipe the whole family enjoyed! I made it with low sodium soya sauce and decreased the sugar slightly - perfection! We ate it over rice with slivered carrots and cabbage over top. I would definitely make it again!
04/22/2020
This was a quick, easy, delicious recipe that I will definitely be making again. Next time that I make it, I will reduce the amount of soy sauce and brown sugar a little.
04/24/2019
I've made the recipe twice. The first time with brown rice. My husband liked it but said he prefers white rice. The 2nd time I made it I cooked white rice and it went over well. Excellent recipe.
02/28/2020
Because I used ground turkey, I added 1T worchester sauce while cooking the meat. I reduced the sugar to 1/4 cup and omitted the green onions as I didn't have any on hand. Delicious!
04/10/2020
Delicious! My 10 year old said this stuff is amazing mom!
05/11/2020
used ground turkey instead of beef. threw in some radishes and bell pepper that needed to be used up. the sauce is amazing. Recipe is quick, simple, delicious!
04/23/2019
Really good balance between sweet and spicy.
06/03/2020
Will make again for family.
06/02/2020
This beef dish was easy to cook and everyone liked it. I added tofu and shredded carrots to the recipe and served it over rice.
05/07/2020
This was great and easy. I would reduce the sugar next time.
07/08/2019
I added some crushed red pepper because we love hot and it was great! Simple and satisfying.
05/29/2020
Delicious!! and super easy. We had to stop ourselves from licking out the bowls! My husband is a picky eater and he asked me to make it again a week after we had it. If you like spicy, ad more crushed red pepper or a dash of sriracha sauce.
04/10/2020
Very good! We added a sunny side up egg to it!
05/07/2020
Delicious with rice or as the filling for lettuce wraps! I was out of green onions so added about half of a chopped sweet onion to the ground beef and cooked them together. Wonderful flavor!!
02/02/2019
Dry and too sweet. I was very disappointed
05/11/2020
I made this with ground turkey and cut up red pepper, green pepper and onion and cooked them into the mixture. The flavors were amazing. My husband loved it and says it's a do over for sure!
05/14/2020
We greatly enjoyed it. I also threw in some mushrooms.
09/18/2019
Oh, bd., you did it again! Yummo, my friend! I made this for lunch as our DIL, Heather, was coming over for a visit. Perfection in flavors! I did double the sauce a/c I added julienned snow peas, shredded carrots, and Bella mushrooms. Topped with scallions and toasted sesame seeds. Served over jasmine rice and ate to our hearts content! Thank you, Brian! You're the BEST!
02/02/2019
Absolutely delicious, the family loved it, will definitely make this again!
04/09/2020
I make this often. Sometimes with a pound of flank steak sometimes instead of ground beef. My hubby loves it both ways
02/20/2019
No changes made. Except I didn't have green onions. But my family all found it to be too strong. I think if I cut all the seasonings in half it would be better. But we had it with rice and lettuce to wrap it in. That helped a bit. If I make it again, I will cut the seasonings in half and we love really flavourful food. But it was a bit overwhelming. I did get more used to it as I ate it but definitely had to be mixed with other things to make it palatable. It was quick and easy to make.
04/07/2019
I prepared the meat without rice and made lettuce wraps. 10/10 would make again!
07/14/2020
Love this recipe! Served it with rice and fresh leaf lettuce: delish! It also works well with ground turkey.
02/09/2020
I did this one without ginger and I loved it! did it 3 time already. I have tried it with ground chuck and ground tenderloin so far and its been fantastic both times. one of my favourite recipes to make. Super easy and very quick to prep
05/21/2020
So so sooooo good!!! And incredibly easy too!!! My family was so impressed by my sudden ability to make authentic tasting Asian food, ha ha! Eating low carb? Try this with chopped cabbage - it was so good with both cabbage or rice!!
05/13/2020
I made it exactly like the recipe , and it was easy and delicious. Then I read the reviews and got so many ideas about how to change it up. We will probably have this as is or with new tweaks every week for a long time. Perfect recipe!
07/15/2020
Super easy and quick. Loved that I could whip this up with what I already had at home. Would probably also work with some thinly sliced beef. Was too salty for my taste and I was glad I served it family style so I didn't have a huge serving of it on top of my rice. I would try making this again and cut back on the soy sauce.
03/29/2019
03/28/19: Made the first time per recipe instructions. Pleasantly surprised I managed to get a nice Asian blend, given my cautious adjustments on the amount of ginger and soy sauce ( for increasing serving size, from 4 to 6 people ). I was also cautious with the ground red pepper amount--and got just the right light kiss of heat. Definitely will make again and experiment with some Asian ingredient additions.
08/11/2020
This was excellent and easy! I made it as written except for the soy sauce, which was regular as I didn't have the low sodium variety. It was still very good, but I'll try to find low sodium to make it with next time. I followed the suggestion of one of the reviewers and made it to go with the Korean rice with mixed vegetables, and it was delicious. My partner commented that he really enjoyed it as well.
05/09/2020
Was so easy to put together and delicious! My Covid19 version: ground ginger in place of fresh; a lot of chives in lieu of green onions; regular soy sauce in place of low sodium. All worked well, but next time if I had to use regular soy sauce I would dilute it with water. Everyone loved it. No leftovers!!
05/03/2020
Adjust half thinly sliced sirloin and ground beef. Use any cabbage and omit the sesame oil.
01/28/2022
I chopped and sautéed 1/2 an onion, stalk of celery and a smallish carrot at the beginning then added the meat and everything else… And I used a little bit more ginger then it said… And at the end I throw in a can of green beans or fresh green beans that have been parboiled, just to get some vegetable / fiber in there.
06/01/2020
I made the recipe as written except I used coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. Served it as directed with the rice but it seemed like it was missing something. Topped it with sweet chili sauce and that was the finishing touch it needed. I will make it again!
05/12/2020
Great recipe! I made some modifications and I think it came out great anyway. Instead of ground beef, I used lean ground turkey (7% fat). Because it was so lean I chose not to drain the fat afterwards, which I think was the right decision. I also used a lot more than 1/4 tsp of crushed red peppers; I sprinkled some in by eye and I'm pretty sure how much I added was more than the recipe called for. A bit spicy but I think the turkey needed it. The green onions at the end were as lovely addition and I recommend adding as much as the recipe calls for (I added less because I'm not a huge fan of them in general). I took the advice and served it over brown rice. I think this was easy and used a lot of stuff I already had, so 5 stars easy!
06/24/2020
Soo tasty! I make this often. The sauce is perfect, and bc of that I add in vegetables to soak up the sauce, too (bok Choy or whatever I have on hand). I also make a spicy mayo to drizzle on top and serve with radishes if I have on hand.
04/10/2019
This is a great recipe. Very flavorful! I doubled everything and added chopped broccoli, carrots, celery and mushrooms. I also had some cabbage in the fridge so I shredded it and cooked it for a few minutes in some of the sauce that I spooned off the top. I layered jasmine rice, cabbage then the beef. Very pretty dish and so tasty! What a great alternative way to use ground beef.
05/28/2019
I cannot say enough about this recipe! We loved it! The beef had the flavors you would find in a bulgogi, but, it was super fast to put together and perfect for a weeknight meal. I used jasmine rice instead of brown rice because that is what I had in the pantry. Thanks for the fabulous recipe!
08/01/2019
This is basically bulgogi ground beef style, definitely extremely good, put a fried egg and some steamed veggies on top to take it to the next level. I was worried about using full strength soy sauce, I never need to use low sodium so didn't want to go out of my way to buy some, it was a little strong I would probably use 1/4 cup normal soy sauce or 1/4 soy 1/4 water but it was still tolerable as is, especially mixed with rice, veggies, and the fried egg. I also didn't have fresh ginger (subbed 1/4 tsp dried ground) or the green onions so they were omitted. Will have to try making it to recipe later. Definitely a keeper, nice change from the usual Italian and Mexican ground beef dishes that we mostly have with ground beef!
03/16/2022
Loved the basic recipe but changed to ground turkey, and riced cauliflower instead of rice. Delicious! I'm gonna try in a taco too next time!
06/26/2021
I cut the soy sauce ( using Tamari) to 1/4c. Used coconut sugar as substitute. Didn't have ginger but had some ginger preserves which took care of some of the sugar content. Added chopped asparagus and peppers for nutrition and color. This is awesome and my honey gave it 2 thumbs up!!!!!
12/13/2021
Delicious, made as written.
03/20/2022
This was a hit! Really easy meal. I thought it was a little bit sweet, but the rest of the family loved it! I made sure to really break up the beef and I added diced carrots after browning. Next time I will cut down on the sugar and maybe use for lettuce wraps…yum! Overall 9.5/10.
09/26/2021
Easy and very yummy.....added some of my own vegetable ingredients at the end....Recommend this dish!!!
09/02/2021
Excellent! I made it without changes and it was a success in my family.
09/14/2021
Fast and easy! I had some pineapple that needed to be used last time I made this so I threw it in and it was amazing!
06/22/2021
Delicious. I ran out of brown sugar so I subbed half of the soy sauce with hoisin sauce. Still turned out great.
03/09/2021
Very good, perhaps a little sweet. I threw in a handful of mixed vegetables and some mushrooms and served over rice. I used 1/4 tsp of ground ginger as a substitute for grated ginger. I would add more next time. Maybe a 1/2 a tsp. I am sure we will have it again.
04/16/2021
This was an easy flavorful dish.
03/10/2021
Had some lean ground beef I didn't know what to do with, so gave this recipe a try. I though it might end up kind of boring, but I was quite wrong. Tons of flavor. I added chopped onion for the browning phase and it worked out well. Also added some mixed vegetables.
02/08/2021
OMG, The flavor in this dish is so so good. I will be making this again and it was so easy to make. Loved every mouthful.
03/02/2021
This is a really good recipe. Even my kids liked it. I added some chili garlic sauce at serving. It would probably be good to add some broccoli to the recipe or on the side.
03/28/2021
I added fresh orange bell peppers and it was delicious!
